Massive Dust Devil Observed in Mayo, Florida on April 10, 2025
A significant dust devil was observed in Mayo, Florida, on Thursday, April 10, 2025. The phenomenon was captured in an image showing a large vortex.
According to witness Shawn Brown, the dust devil reached heights of "hundreds of feet." It was seen lifting dirt and debris from a field.
Dust devils typically arise during fair weather conditions. These conditions include sunny, hot days with light winds. Intense ground heating creates substantial temperature differences, leading to rising air and surface winds that generate spin.
These events usually last only a few minutes. Wind speeds are generally low, and rarely cause damage.
