Firefighters in Northern Ireland are battling multiple wildfires as dry conditions create highly flammable environments. Several fires erupted over the weekend, with one threatening residential areas. A significant blaze near Newcastle in Co Down required the response of 100 firefighters and 15 appliances to combat a 3km stretch of fire. The fire, involving gorse and forestry, was reported on Saturday evening between Hilltown and Rostrevor. An emergency evacuation occurred in the Sandbank area of Rostrevor due to shifting winds. Firefighters applied protective foam to one house threatened by the flames. A man arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with a large gorse fire in the Mourne Mountains has been released on bail.
