In March 2024, severe weather swept across the central United States, causing fatalities and widespread flooding. At least eight deaths were reported in Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana, and Tennessee. The storms spawned numerous tornadoes, including confirmed EF-3 tornadoes in Selmer, Tennessee (with winds reaching 160 mph), and Lake City, Arkansas (with winds up to 150 mph).Extensive rainfall led to significant flooding, with some areas receiving over 6 inches of rain since the preceding Wednesday. A large flood watch area stretched from Texas to Ohio, with Arkansas bracing for up to 10 inches of rain. River levels were expected to rise, potentially reaching major flood stage from Arkansas to Kentucky. The storm system was forecast to move eastward, bringing rain to the Southeast.
