Kilauea volcano in Hawaii erupted on Thursday, producing lava fountains reaching heights of 700 feet (215 meters). The eruption, which began on Wednesday after a week-long pause, is contained within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and poses no threat to residential areas. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the lava release is continuous from the summit caldera. This eruption marks the sixth recorded at Kilauea's summit since 2020. The current eruption cycle started on December 23 and has experienced multiple stops and resumptions, with episodes lasting from 13 hours to eight days. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park encompasses Kilauea and Mauna Loa, two of the world's most active volcanoes.
