In May 2025, a Ukrainian military drone from the "Typhoon" unit captured footage of an object at an altitude of approximately 800 meters that immediately caught the attention of experts. The infrared video was made public a year later by Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an advisor to Ukraine's Minister of Defense.
The footage reveals a bright central glow with protruding rays or spikes, giving it a distinct star-like shape. The object moves and shifts position, leaving behind a trail that resembles exhaust or plasma. The drone’s camera struggles to maintain focus on the entity against the backdrop of the night sky and clouds.
Beskrestnov emphasized that the recording was provided by military personnel. This is not the first occurrence of its kind.
Back in 2023, he shared front-line footage of an unidentified object observed by reconnaissance teams. According to him, he was contacted within an hour of that publication by representatives of a state entity that has been investigating such matters since the Soviet era. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the study of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) in Ukrainian airspace has become primarily a military responsibility.
Beskrestnov noted that such incidents are not limited to the United States. What is often classified as a UFO may actually be a new type of enemy weapon. In response, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense has established a dedicated email address (uap@gur.gov.ua) to collect video evidence and testimonies from both civilians and military personnel.
The video quickly went viral, sparking a wave of online debate. While some see it as proof of unknown technology, others suggest it could be an advanced drone or an optical artifact of the infrared camera—a phenomenon known as "blooming" from a heat source.
Stabilized versions of the clip offer a clearer look at the shape but fail to provide definitive answers. The recording's quality is typical for field conditions: grainy and distorted, yet the object stands out sharply against its environment.
This case fits into a broader global context. As world powers gradually declassify UAP archives, these sightings take on practical significance within active combat zones.
Military officials approach them pragmatically, recording and analyzing the data to determine if they are enemy equipment, natural phenomena, or technical glitches. As long as the nature of the object remains unidentified, it serves as a reminder of how little is known about the capabilities hidden in the skies above the battlefield.
Ukrainian authorities are continuing their data collection efforts, stressing the importance of every reliable witness account. New recordings may eventually help shed light on exactly what is behind these mysterious flashes in the darkness.
