19 Cold-Stunned Sea Turtles Released into Atlantic After Rehab

Nineteen sea turtles, rehabilitated in Missouri after suffering from cold stunning in New England, were released into the Atlantic Ocean near Jacksonville, Florida. The turtles, including loggerhead and Kemp's ridley species, were flown from Boston to the Johnny Morris Sea Turtle Center in Springfield, Missouri, in December. There, they received 13 weeks of intensive care for conditions like pneumonia and hypothermia caused by rapid drops in water temperature. The release, which took place at Little Talbot Island State Park, was made possible by the center and Turtles Fly Too. Each turtle was equipped with satellite tracking devices to allow scientists to monitor their progress.
