La Niña Signals Harsh Winter Ahead for Turkey, Meteorologists Warn

The World Meteorological Organization has announced the end of El Niño and the onset of La Niña, indicating a harsh winter for Turkey. Temperatures have rapidly dropped across the country since last Saturday, leading to snowfall in many regions.

Experts predict that this winter will be particularly severe due to La Niña's global effects. Following several years of drought, nature is expected to rebalance with increased precipitation and colder conditions. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), months from January to May 2024 are projected to exceed average temperatures.

La Niña, the counterpart to the warmer El Niño phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean, typically results in cooler weather conditions globally, particularly affecting coastal regions. The transition between these two weather events often involves neutral or natural climatic occurrences.
