Following meticulous comparisons with herbarium specimens and detailed analysis, scientists have described it as Ardisia condensiflora—a new endemic species found exclusively in this region of Sabah. The plant is distinguished by its compact flower clusters and unique leaf shape, features that allow it to efficiently utilize the dappled light beneath the tropical forest canopy.
Tawau Hills Park has long been renowned for its high level of endemism, preserving tracts of primary rainforest where many plant and animal species can be found nowhere else on Earth.
