Mérida is celebrating 'El Mes de las Aves' (The Month of Birds) throughout May 2025, marking the XI edition of this annual event that began in 2014. This initiative highlights the city's rich environmental landscape, nestled between the Guadiana and Albarregas rivers.
The program includes a variety of activities for all ages. Schoolchildren can participate in biodiversity workshops and guided tours along the river. The event also features talks with naturalist illustrators and bird-themed workshops.
Public activities include ornithological routes along the Guadiana River and birdwatching sessions at the Roman bridge of the Albarregas River. This year's special guest is Juan Varela Simó, a biologist and naturalist illustrator. Several activities are scheduled from May 9th to May 20th, including bird watching at the Albarregas Roman Bridge and ornithological routes starting from Plaza Santo Ángel.
