Cúcuta, Colombia, recently participated in the City Nature Challenge (CNC), a global event focused on documenting urban biodiversity. The four-day event aimed to identify and share information about the life cycles and distribution of local flora and fauna.

The initiative, organized by the Alianza de Líderes Innovadores para la Acción Regional (Corporación Aliar), took place in areas such as El Malecón, Laguna del barrio San Luis, and Parque Playa. This marked the first time Cúcuta hosted the event.

Participants, including research groups from local universities and environmental foundations, recorded 1,171 observations and identified 326 species. The findings were documented using the iNaturalist application, contributing to a broader understanding of the region's biodiversity.

Organizers hope the CNC will expand to other municipalities in the region next year. They also emphasized the importance of connecting communities with local ecosystems and addressing challenges in natural resource management.
