Wakehurst, Kew's wild botanic garden in Sussex, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Millennium Seed Bank (MSB) in 2025 with the 'Seedscapes' art program.
From July 4th to September 14th, 2025, six international artists will present on-site installations inspired by the world of seeds and the importance of global seed conservation.
The MSB is the world's largest collection of seeds from wild plant species, housing over 2.5 billion seeds from more than 40,000 species, serving as a crucial genetic resource to combat biodiversity loss and climate change.
The artists, including Adam Ceramic, Kristina Pulejkova, Cristina Ochoa, Shiraaz Ali, James Tapscott, and Ed Carter, have created works that include ceramic sculptures, sound installations, large-scale installations, and augmented reality art.
These installations aim to take visitors on a multi-sensory journey, raising awareness of the importance of seed conservation and the protection of biodiversity.
In addition to 'Seedscapes', Wakehurst plans other events for the MSB anniversary, including the 'Nature Heroes' exhibition, where visitors can learn how to contribute to nature conservation.
The 'Wanderwild' event will take place from July 17th to 19th, 2025, featuring live music, international cuisine, and circus performances.
