A new plant species, Eugenia velutifolia Mazine & Sobral, has been discovered in Salto de Pirapora, Brazil. The unveiling took place during the 11th-anniversary celebration of the "Irmãos Villas-Bôas" Botanical Garden in Sorocaba. The discovery was coordinated by Dr. Fiorella Fernanda Mazine Capelo from UFSCar. The event highlighted the crucial role of botanical gardens in contemporary society, with presentations from renowned experts, including Harri Lorenzi, founder of Instituto Plantarum. A specimen of Eugenia velutifolia was planted at the Sorocaba Botanical Garden to mark the occasion. The garden, established in 2014, aims to protect local and regional flora species within a 70,000-square-meter area.
