Ellie Wilson's innovative composition, "Moth x Human," is set to premiere at London's Southbank Centre on July 5, 2025. The piece is part of the New Music Biennial festival and transforms moth activity data into a unique musical experience.
The collaboration with the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH) uses data from Parsonage Down National Nature Reserve. Eighty moth species were recorded, with each assigned a distinct sound. This creates a sonic representation of the nocturnal ecosystem.
The composition blends sonified moth data with live instruments and visual elements. The premiere at the Southbank Centre is scheduled for July 5, 2025, at 12:00 PM, during the New Music Biennial festival. Tickets are free.
Wilson's work aims to raise awareness about nocturnal pollinators and environmental impacts. "Moth x Human" offers an accessible way to engage with environmental issues through music. For more information and tickets, visit the Southbank Centre's website.
