The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has postponed tax deadlines for taxpayers in North Carolina due to Hurricane Helene. The new deadline is September 25, 2025.
Affected individuals and businesses now have until September 25, 2025, to file returns and pay taxes due from September 25, 2024, to September 25, 2025. Taxpayers in federally declared disaster areas can claim uninsured disaster-related losses on either the current or prior year's return.
Additional relief may be available for those with retirement plans or IRAs, including hardship withdrawals. Taxpayers must write FEMA declaration number 3617-EM on any return claiming a loss. Taxpayers without an IRS address of record in the disaster area should call 866-562-5227 to update their address and request disaster tax relief.
