Southeast Asia is experiencing a surge in artificial intelligence (AI) adoption. Projections indicate that AI and generative AI (GenAI) could contribute approximately $120 billion to the region's gross domestic product (GDP) by 2027.
Tech giants are making significant investments in the region. Microsoft committed $1.7 billion to develop cloud and AI infrastructure in Indonesia. Google invested $2 billion in a data center and cloud region in Malaysia. Amazon joined with a $50 billion commitment to the region's AI sector.
Governments are also actively formulating national AI strategies. Indonesia has developed a National Strategy for AI. Singapore invested $70 million to develop models tailored to regional cultures. Malaysia launched the AI Malaysia (AIM) platform.
