AFT, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic Launch $23 Million AI Training Academy for Teachers

New York, July 8, 2025 – The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), in collaboration with Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic, announced the establishment of the National Academy for AI Instruction for Teachers.

This $23 million initiative aims to provide free AI training and curriculum to all 1.8 million AFT members, starting with educators from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Microsoft is contributing $12.5 million over five years, with OpenAI adding $10 million. Anthropic's $500,000 contribution highlights the role of private companies in future education.

The academy will be based in Manhattan, New York, and is designed to support 400,000 teachers within five years, impacting over 7.2 million students.
