Neil Armstrong's iconic portrait of Buzz Aldrin on the Moon fetched nearly $32,000 at a recent Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr auction. The sale, titled 'For All Mankind: The Artistic Legacy of Early Space Exploration,' featured vintage space photographs from Victor Martin-Malburet's collection. The Armstrong portrait, the only photo of him on the Moon, was a top highlight. Other notable sales included a 1946 photo of a V2 rocket entering space, which sold for over $27,000, far exceeding its estimated value. William Anders' 'Earthrise' photo from Apollo 8 went for over $14,000. Another photo taken by Anders, the first human-taken photo of the entire Earth, sold for nearly $11,000. Victor Martin-Malburet expressed his excitement that these 'visual treasures' will now inspire passion in new homes. Sabine Cornette de Saint Cyr praised the Apollo astronauts as some of the 20th century's greatest artists. Overall, the auction saw 80% of lots sold, totaling nearly $470,000.
