Princess Diana's enduring appeal is once again fueling excitement as Julien's Auctions prepares to host "Princess Diana's Style and a Royal Collection" on June 26 in Beverly Hills. The auction features over 200 items, including clothing and accessories belonging to Princess Diana, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Queen Elizabeth II, and other royals.
Following record-breaking sales of Diana's garments in recent years, including a dress that fetched $1.14 million in 2023, this auction aims to offer collectors and institutions a chance to own a piece of royal history. A highlight of the collection is a 1989 Bellville Sassoon floral day dress, known as the "caring dress," which Diana wore to numerous engagements.
Some items were originally sold by Diana herself in her 1997 Christie's auction to benefit AIDS and cancer charities. Those dresses initially sold for around $30,000 to $40,000 but are now expected to reach prices between $800,000 and $1 million. According to Martin Nolan, cofounder of Julien's Auctions, Diana's timeless style and thoughtful wardrobe choices contribute to the continued high demand for her belongings.
