Godard's Handwritten Script for "Breathless" Heads to Auction at Sotheby's Paris

Edited by: alya myart

The handwritten script for Jean-Luc Godard's iconic film "Breathless" (À bout de souffle) is set to be auctioned at Sotheby's Paris in June. The 72-page manuscript, filled with Godard's notes and synopses of key scenes from the 1960 New Wave classic, comes from the collection of the film's producer, Georges de Beauregard's family. "Breathless," starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg, is celebrated as a landmark of French cinema. Godard famously wrote the dialogues at the last minute, encouraging improvisation and naturalism from his actors. The auction lot includes original photos of Godard and Seberg, vintage contact sheets, and letters to actor Roger Hanin. Sotheby's estimates the lot's value between €400,000 and €600,000. The online auction will run from June 4th to 18th.
