London has come up with a place where you can hide from everyone

London Tube station trials a ‘calm space’ — I’m neurodivergent and I’m not convinced

London has built a booth for people who are fed up with everything 😄

The idea was as kind and useful as could be.

At the station Ealing Broadway in London, a small Calm Space was installed — a quiet, low-stimulation booth where a passenger can briefly take shelter from the noise, the crowds and the general overload of the Underground. The project is intended primarily for neurodivergent people and for those who sometimes just need a few minutes of silence in the middle of a journey. TfL launched this zone as at least a four-week test together with NOOK, with the participation of Autistica and people with personal experience of sensory overload.

Sounds great.

There was only one problem.

It looks too much like a booth.

As soon as photographs of the structure hit the internet, users began joking that Transport for London had opened an elite kennel on the platform.

And visually, it really is hard to argue with that: a small separate space, an open entrance, a compact size — it all looks as if a very tired Labrador is about to walk in and ask not to be disturbed.

What's especially funny is that the idea itself is the exact opposite of the jokes.

This is not a place for animals and not a decorative object, but an attempt to make transport more comfortable for people who find it especially hard to endure noise, bright light, crowds and sensory overload.

But the internet is the internet.

If something even slightly resembles a doghouse, it immediately becomes a doghouse.

So now the London Underground has a rather unusual structure:

officially — Calm Space.
Unofficially — a VIP booth for the passenger who is fed up with everything.
