Spain Tackles Youth Loneliness with Social Media Campaign

Edited by: Liliya Shabalina

A new social media campaign, '@Aqui_LaSole,' is launching in Spain to combat unwanted loneliness among young people. The campaign, funded by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, aims to raise awareness and provide support for young adults experiencing emotional disconnection.

The Hospital San Juan de Dios in Seville reports an increase in young patients presenting with anxiety, sadness, and feelings of emptiness, often stemming from unrecognized emotional or social isolation. Psychologist Marta López Narbona emphasizes that young people may express their loneliness as overwhelm or disinterest, making it difficult to identify and treat.

The campaign features a fictional influencer, 'La Sole,' on Instagram to depict everyday situations where youth loneliness manifests. The goal is to break the stigma surrounding loneliness and create safe spaces for young people to express themselves. The Hospital San Juan de Dios in Seville is actively involved in promoting the campaign and providing resources for young people in need.

The initiative includes social media content, real-life testimonials, and collaborations with influencers to reach a younger audience. The campaign seeks to encourage young people to recognize their feelings of loneliness and seek help, reinforcing that speaking about loneliness is a sign of strength, not weakness.
