Taipei Urges Pet Owners: Prevent Hypothermia by Thoroughly Drying Paws and Fur-1

On August 16, 2026, the Taipei Animal Protection Office issued a reminder to dog owners concerning the guidelines for utilizing the city's nine designated dog parks and activity zones. Taiwan's rainy and typhoon season, which spans from May to November, demands particular vigilance.

Before heading out, owners are strongly advised to check weather forecasts and confirm the operational status of parks. Furthermore, during periods of heavy rain and typhoons, it is best to refrain from walking pets altogether.

Most public sites have reopened since July 27, following essential preparatory work to protect against typhoons and floods. However, visitors must continue to observe strict disease prevention protocols.

These measures include wearing masks throughout the entire area, completing QR code registration, avoiding large gatherings, and maintaining a minimum two-meter social distance. Additionally, if a park accommodates more than 20 people, or an activity zone exceeds 10, visitors are encouraged to leave to prevent overcrowding.

Particular emphasis is being placed on the health and well-being of dogs during this period. In wet conditions, it is vital to prevent pets from becoming hypothermic or excessively soaked; therefore, after any outdoor activity, owners must meticulously dry their dogs' paws and fur.

Non-compliance with these epidemiological regulations may lead to penalties as stipulated by the Infectious Disease Control Act.

City authorities reiterate that while consistent walks are undeniably beneficial for dogs, their safety and overall health take precedence. Owners intending to visit a park should proactively evaluate both the weather conditions and the state of the facilities beforehand, ensuring the outing is a source of joy and not an unforeseen complication.
