Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

The University of Western Australia (UWA) has proposed establishing branch campuses in India, starting in Mumbai. UWA, founded in 1911 and ranked among the top 100 globally, is seeking approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC). This move aims to foster global academic exchange and align with India's National Education Policy 2020. UWA's proposal was discussed at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) with key figures like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The university intends to offer programs in Science, Technology, Business, and the Creative Arts, including the UWA Conservatorium of Music. Additional campuses are planned for Tamil Nadu, pending approvals. Chancellor Diane Smith-Gander emphasized UWA's existing ties with India and the opportunity to meet growing student aspirations. Students will have the chance to transfer between campuses in India and Perth, creating flexible pathways for their education. This initiative anticipates a 60% expansion in Indian higher education over the next decade.
