Indonesia Boosts Literacy in Schools with Book Distribution and Reading Programs

Indonesia's Ministry of Education is prioritizing literacy, distributing quality reading materials to schools, especially at the primary level. Minister Abdul Mu'ti visited SD Negeri 2 Guraping and SLB Centra PKLK Negeri Sofifi in North Maluku to observe literacy activities. The Head of Language Development, Hafidz Muksin, emphasized the commitment to providing quality reading materials. In 2024, schools in North Maluku received books, and language communities gained support for literacy programs. SD Negeri 2 Guraping received 200 books in May 2024, now used in libraries and reading corners. The school implements literacy activities before classes, where older students read independently and younger students listen to teachers read aloud. Students show enthusiasm for the books, which feature engaging illustrations and accessible language.
