Iran's Foreign Minister Visits Iraq for Syria Consultations

On December 4, 2024, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is set to visit Iraq to continue discussions regarding developments in Syria. The visit aims to facilitate meetings and consultations with senior Iraqi officials.

Last week, Araqchi conducted a regional tour that included Syria and Turkey, where he expressed Iran's positions on the evolving situation in Syria. The discussions in Baghdad are expected to focus on the latest developments in the region.

During his visit to Syria, Araqchi met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He characterized recent actions by terrorist groups as part of a conspiracy by enemies of regional stability and security, asserting that these activities align with the malicious objectives of the United States and Israel, who seek to perpetuate wars and destabilize the region.

Araqchi expressed confidence that Syria, having defeated terrorism in the past, would once again overcome these groups. He emphasized Iran's unwavering support for the Syrian government and people in resisting aggression and violations by Israel and terrorist factions, framing this support as essential for maintaining sustainable stability and security in the region.

Additionally, during his visit to Turkey, Araqchi met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, where they held discussions. In a joint press conference, Araqchi stated that the purpose of his visit was to consult on regional issues, particularly the Syrian crisis, as well as bilateral relations between the two nations.

Araqchi noted that many problems in the region stem from external interventions. He highlighted the close ties between terrorist groups in Syria and the United States and Israel, warning that the resurgence of these terrorists poses a threat to Syria's security and could also impact the safety of neighboring countries.
