Severe Flooding in Nepal Claims Over 100 Lives Amidst Heavy Rainfall

Over 100 people have lost their lives in Nepal due to severe flooding and landslides caused by heavy rainfall over the past two days. The Nepali government has ordered the closure of schools in affected areas for three days as a precautionary measure, according to Lakshmi Bhattarai, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education.

The torrential rains have resulted in some regions near the capital, Kathmandu, receiving over 30 centimeters of rain, leading to dangerously high water levels in the Bagmati River. Major roads across the country have also been flooded, contributing to the rising death toll.

As of now, the death toll stands at 101, with 64 individuals reported missing, according to Dan Bahadur Karki, a police spokesperson. The situation remains critical as rescue efforts continue to locate the missing and provide aid to those affected.

This disaster highlights the increasing vulnerability of regions like Nepal to extreme weather events, raising concerns about climate change and disaster preparedness on a global scale.
