In response, on May 17, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, stated that the United States should "stop using Taiwan to control China" and cease supporting Taiwan's independence. He also accused the U.S. of attempting to undermine stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung, on May 16, welcomed the change, noting that the updated fact sheet reflects Washington's support for U.S.-Taiwan relations.
