WhatsApp Introduces Music Sharing for Status Updates

WhatsApp is enhancing user experience with a new feature that allows music sharing via Status updates. Currently under development, this feature was discovered in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.22.11, although it is not yet available to beta testers.

Users will be able to access this feature by clicking on a music icon in the editor after selecting a photo or video for their status. A pop-up will appear, featuring a search bar to find song titles or artist names. Once selected, the song will automatically integrate into the created status, allowing users to customize their photos or videos to match the music.

This development comes shortly after Meta signed a global partnership with Universal Music Group, covering all Meta platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads, and WhatsApp. While the launch date for the music feature on WhatsApp Status is still unknown, users have long been requesting the ability to add music to their statuses, as evidenced by widespread searches online.

With this new addition, WhatsApp Status is increasingly resembling Instagram Stories, which have featured music since 2018. Recently, WhatsApp Status also gained features similar to Instagram Stories, including options to mention other users privately, repost statuses, and like statuses with a heart icon.
