Japan Partners with Philippines to Enhance Disaster Response Using AI

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has partnered with Spectee Inc. to assist the Philippine government in utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) for disaster response.

This collaboration aims to implement a cloud-based technology called Spectee Pro, designed to enhance information collection and communication during emergencies.

JICA stated that Spectee Pro has been successfully used in Japan by various sectors and will be tailored for the Philippine context with the help of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Spectee Pro is an AI-driven Crisis Management Information System that analyzes images and language to extract critical data from social media.

Negoro Satoshi, COO of Spectee, emphasized the system's potential to bolster the Philippines' resilience against increasing natural disasters attributed to climate change.

On September 24, officials from JICA, DICT, and Spectee signed a collaboration agreement to distribute Spectee Pro to approximately 80 government agencies and localities, including major cities like Metro Manila and Cebu.

The system will be provided free of charge for a limited time, alongside training and a feedback mechanism to ensure its effectiveness.

The Philippines has been identified as having the highest world risk index for three consecutive years, highlighting the urgency of such initiatives.
