The Aquabike Jetski World Championship 2024, held at Lake Toba from November 13 to 17, attracted over 200,000 visitors and featured more than 100 racers from 30 countries. This event not only showcased thrilling races but also contributed significantly to the local economy, with an estimated economic turnover of IDR 1.8 trillion over five years.
In the Ski Division GP1 category, Quinten Bossche from Belgium secured the world champion title with an impressive 210 points, outperforming Hungary's Kevin Reiterer, who finished with 196 points. Morgan Poret from France claimed third place with 173 points. In the Ski Ladies GP1 category, Estonia's Jasmiin Ypraus dominated the season, finishing with 195 points, followed closely by Jessica Chavanne from France.
The Slalom Parallel Ski category saw Morgan Poret emerge as the world champion, narrowly defeating compatriot Mickael Poret. The endurance category was won by François Medori from France, who excelled with 170 points. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of the athletes but also positioned Lake Toba as a premier international sports venue.
Additionally, the event featured cultural performances, including the record-breaking dance 'Tari Tortor Hata Sopisik,' which involved 1,375 students from North Sumatra, setting a new record recognized by MURI. The championship successfully merged sports and culture, reaffirming Indonesia's potential as a top destination for water sports tourism.
