Sam Asghari recently opened up about his challenging relationship with pop icon Britney Spears, describing their seven-year romance as a "crash course in Hollywood." In a candid discussion on the Sibling Revelry podcast, Asghari, 30, highlighted the unexpected hurdles they faced, particularly surrounding Spears' conservatorship.
Asghari recounted his initial confusion upon learning that Spears, despite being an adult, required her father Jamie Spears' approval for significant life decisions. Coming from Iran at the age of 12, he found it difficult to understand such restrictions in the United States, calling it "the weirdest thing to deal with."
He also expressed frustration over individuals who exploited their connection to Spears, stating, "They take advantage because they think you owe something to them, which is so ridiculous. That was the most difficult and weird spiral thing that I've witnessed in my life ever."
The couple first met in 2016 while filming Spears' music video for "Slumber Party" and began dating shortly after. They announced their engagement in September 2021 and married in June 2022. However, their union was short-lived, as they separated in August 2023, with Asghari filing for divorce a month later.
The divorce was finalized on December 2, 2024, coinciding with Spears' 43rd birthday. On that day, the "Stronger" singer shared a video on Instagram, whimsically stating, "I'm turning 5 this year. I'm turning 5 years old, and I have to go to kindergarten tomorrow." She also mentioned relocating to Mexico, although it remains unclear if she has actually moved.
