The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu on December 11, 2024. According to the department's report, a low-pressure system is currently forming over the southeastern Arabian Sea and adjoining areas.

As a result, a depression is expected to develop in the central regions of the South Bay of Bengal by December 7, moving northwest and likely reaching the southwestern coast of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka by December 12. This weather pattern may lead to light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, in several areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from December 6 to December 10.

On December 11, light to moderate rain is anticipated in some coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and a few inland areas, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in districts such as Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram. Similar conditions are expected in Chengalpattu, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, and other districts on December 12.

In Chennai, the weather will remain partly cloudy for the next 24 hours, with a chance of light rain and thunderstorms in the evening or night. Maximum temperatures are forecasted to be around 31-32°C, while minimum temperatures will hover around 25°C.

Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the southeastern Bay of Bengal, where wind speeds may reach 35 to 45 km/h, with gusts up to 55 km/h expected.
