The Government of Córdoba has made significant strides in ecological restoration, planting over 250,000 native trees as part of the Más Flora Cordobesa program. This initiative aims to conserve biodiversity and restore native ecosystems across the province.

Launched under the Ministry of Environment and Circular Economy, the program exceeded its 2024 goal of planting 200,000 native trees. A remarkable 180,000 of these were tabaquillos, a crucial species for restoring water sources in the Sierras Grandes region.

Collaborating with over 100 municipalities, the initiative also included a variety of 70 native species, such as algarrobo and calden. The innovative use of genetically traceable seedlings underscores the initiative's commitment to preserving local genetics and conserving native forests.

As part of a broader ecological restoration plan, the program emphasizes three key strategies: conserving healthy ecosystems, reforesting degraded areas with native flora, and controlling invasive species that threaten local biodiversity.

In another significant development, the Curitiba Botanical Garden in Brazil has been recognized for its conservation efforts, particularly the Campos Curitibanos collection, which preserves a unique ecosystem that dates back over 2.5 million years. This initiative is vital for protecting local plant species, some of which are endangered.

Over the past nine years, the project has successfully saved 211 plant species, including two previously undescribed species. The garden also serves as a living laboratory, where ongoing ecological studies engage the community in biodiversity monitoring.
