Google Cloud Unveils AI Trends for Retail by 2025

JAKARTA - Google has outlined how AI technology will be integrated into retail operations and scaled across its corporate systems by 2025.

Mark Micallef, Managing Director of Southeast Asia at Google Cloud, stated that generative AI will assist retailers in addressing challenges such as rising costs, supply chain instability, pricing pressures, and high employee turnover.

Micallef identified four key trends shaping AI adoption in retail:

  • Multimodal AI: This technology enables retailers to analyze unstructured data, including product descriptions, images, and customer reviews, optimizing inventory and marketing efforts.

  • Intuitive Search: Generative AI will transform how customers discover products both online and in physical stores, allowing product searches through conversational interfaces.

  • Conversational AI Agents: These digital brand ambassadors will assist in the purchasing process, answer queries, and provide style or product recommendations, enhancing service quality and creating new revenue growth opportunities.

  • Content Moderation and Security: Retailers will increasingly use AI for content moderation, fraud detection, and security oversight, fostering a safer shopping environment.

Micallef emphasized that AI will play a crucial role in preventing theft, detecting fraud, and ensuring workplace safety.
