Tesla Issues Voluntary Recall for 2,400 Cybertrucks Due to Acceleration Fault

Tesla has announced a voluntary recall affecting approximately 2,400 units of its Cybertruck due to an acceleration fault linked to a defective drive inverter. The recall encompasses vehicles manufactured between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024.

The issue arises from a faulty metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) within the drive inverter, which regulates power supply to the motor. This defect may result in a loss of torque during acceleration, posing safety risks, particularly for a vehicle weighing around three tons.

Unlike previous issues that were resolved through over-the-air software updates, this problem requires physical intervention. Owners of affected vehicles must verify their vehicle identification number (VIN) and schedule a service appointment for a free repair, which is expected to take about three hours.

The Cybertruck, launched on November 30, 2023, has faced multiple technical issues, marking its sixth recall in under a year. Tesla has reported no accidents or injuries linked to this acceleration fault, but has received at least five warranty claims related to the issue prior to the recall announcement.

As Tesla strives to maintain its reputation for innovation in the electric vehicle sector, the recurring technical problems with the Cybertruck may impact consumer confidence and the company's standing in a competitive market.
