Qatar and Iran Discuss Strengthening Ties, Regional Issues

Tehran - The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Wednesday to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional challenges.

During the meeting, both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and opening new avenues for collaboration. President Pezeshkian highlighted Iran's priority in developing ties with regional and neighboring nations, with Qatar holding a special place in its foreign policy.

Discussions covered various topics, including economic and trade relations, with both sides agreeing to follow up on the results of recent Joint Economic Commission meetings to increase trade volume. They also addressed regional issues, with President Pezeshkian calling for the preservation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Emir of Qatar praised Iran's constructive relations with the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and other Islamic countries, emphasizing the need for dialogue to resolve conflicts. He also acknowledged Qatar's mediation role in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Palestinian prisoners, while stressing the importance of humanitarian aid reaching Gaza.

Both leaders expressed hope for the reconstruction of Gaza and a lasting solution for Palestine, underscoring the significance of continued dialogue and cooperation in addressing regional challenges.
