India and China to Resume Direct Air Services Amid Improving Relations

India and China have announced the resumption of direct air services, as confirmed by New Delhi following a meeting between Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. This agreement comes in the wake of efforts to ease tensions along their disputed border.

Wang Yi emphasized the need for both nations to pursue 'mutual support and mutual achievement' rather than fostering 'suspicion' and 'alienation.' The discussions mark a continuing trend of dialogue between the two countries, which have seen strained relations since a military clash in 2020.

Recent months have witnessed several high-level meetings aimed at improving ties, including a conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October. In December, additional discussions between Wang and India's national security adviser, Ajit Doval, focused on managing border issues and enhancing trust.

The groundwork for these diplomatic efforts was laid in October, when both countries agreed to disengage troops at two critical points along their largely undemarcated frontier in Ladakh.
