Sol Systems Launches $345 Million Solar Project in Illinois, Transforming Historic Mining Site

Washington, D.C. - On January 22, 2025, Sol Systems announced the financial close and commencement of construction for a $345 million solar project in Randolph County, Illinois. This initiative will generate 182 megawatts (MW) of clean energy, enough to power approximately 33,800 homes annually.

The project is located on a 1,050-acre site that was previously a subsurface mine, showcasing a significant shift from carbon-intensive land use to renewable energy production. This transformation aims to provide long-term community benefits, protect local ecosystems, and stimulate economic opportunities.

Key partnerships with ING, Churchill Stateside Group, Qcells, Nextracker, and McCarthy Building Companies facilitated the successful financial close, highlighting the importance of collaboration in clean energy development.

Yuri Horwitz, CEO of Sol Systems, emphasized the project’s role in demonstrating how renewable energy solutions can be applied to challenging sites while supporting U.S. manufacturing and local communities.
