Massive Data Breach Exposes Personal Information of Over 237,000 Comcast Customers

On October 8, 2024, it was reported that a significant data breach at Comcast has compromised the personal information of 237,703 customers. This incident, which occurred at Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS), a third-party service provider, involved unauthorized access to sensitive data including names, addresses, social security numbers, and birthdates.

The breach took place between February 14 and February 26, 2024, when an unauthorized party accessed FBCS's network and downloaded sensitive information. FBCS confirmed that the files accessed contained personal details of affected individuals.

This incident marks the second major data breach affecting Comcast customers within a year. In December 2023, Comcast's Xfinity division disclosed that personal data of approximately 35 million customers was exposed due to a vulnerability in Citrix software.

The implications of this breach are substantial, raising concerns about data security and privacy for millions of internet users. The incident highlights the risks associated with third-party service providers and the importance of robust cybersecurity measures.
