UN General Assembly Calls for High-Level Conference on Israeli-Palestinian Peace

On December 4, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to convene a high-level conference aimed at promoting a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The resolution received overwhelming support, with 157 votes in favor, eight against, and seven abstentions.

The proposed 'International High-Level Conference for the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution' is scheduled to take place from June 2 to June 4, 2025, in New York.

In a separate resolution, the Assembly urged Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights, which has been occupied since 1967. This proposal was approved with 97 votes in favor, eight against, and 64 abstentions. The resolution expressed concern over Israel's failure to withdraw, stating that it contradicts UN Security Council and General Assembly decisions.

Furthermore, the resolution declared Israeli settlement activities in the Golan Heights illegal and asserted that the application of Israeli laws and jurisdiction in the region lacks validity.
