India's Infrastructure Output Grows 4.3% Year-on-Year in November Driven by Construction Activity

NEW DELHI, Dec 31 - India's infrastructure output increased by 4.3% year-on-year in November, supported by robust construction activity, according to government data released on Tuesday.

In October, infrastructure output, which comprises 40% of India's industrial production and measures activity across eight sectors, recorded a revised growth of 3.7%.

Cement production surged by 13% year-on-year in November, compared to a 3.1% increase in October, while steel production rose by 4.8%, slightly down from a revised 5.2% in the previous month.

Coal output also saw a year-on-year rise of 7.5% last month, although it was a decrease from the 7.8% growth observed in October. The output of refinery products grew by 2.9%, down from 5.2% in the previous month.

Electricity generation increased by 3.8% from a revised 2% rise in October, while fertilizer production saw a 2% increase, compared to a 0.4% rise in the prior month.

Conversely, crude oil production fell by 2.1%, following a 4.8% decline in October, and natural gas output decreased by 1.9%, compared to a 1.2% drop the previous month.

For the period from April to November, infrastructure output grew by 4.2%, a significant decline from the 8.7% increase recorded during the same period last year.
