On October 11, 2024, climate scientists from World Weather Attribution released an analysis indicating that Hurricane Milton is a direct consequence of climate change, which is intensifying hurricane activity globally. The report highlights that rainfall from storms similar to Milton is now 20% to 30% more intense than it would have been in a pre-industrial world.
The analysis also points out that maximum wind speeds of hurricanes are approximately 10% stronger in the current climate conditions, which are 1.3 degrees Celsius warmer than before industrialization. This increase in both rainfall and wind speed poses significant risks to affected regions.
