Starting November 12, 2024, Disney+ in Mexico has enforced a new policy limiting account sharing to individuals residing in the same household. This move follows similar restrictions implemented by other streaming platforms like Netflix.
Under this new rule, users can only share their accounts with those who regularly connect to the same internet network, which Disney+ defines as a 'Disney+ Household.' Devices associated with a primary residence based on their location and connection frequency will be recognized as part of this household.
Users attempting to access their accounts from different locations will receive a warning message and an option to update their household through a code sent via email. However, changing the household may exclude previously connected devices.
For subscribers needing access outside their primary residence, Disney+ has hinted at possible exceptions for travel or specific cases, though details on how this will work remain unclear. A temporary permission or special code may allow access from different locations, but additional restrictions could apply.
Disney+ also offers options for adding extra users outside the primary household for an additional monthly fee—131 pesos for the Standard plan and 149 pesos for the Premium plan. This allows added members to access content on a single device and download it, providing a flexible solution for users.
The service has diversified its plans in Mexico to cater to various preferences and budgets. The Standard plan with ads costs 129.90 pesos, offering full access to Disney+ and ESPN sports, albeit with ads and limited video quality of 1080p. For an uninterrupted experience, the Standard plan without ads is available for 219 pesos, while the Premium plan, priced at 299 pesos, provides superior quality up to 4K UHD, Dolby Atmos audio, simultaneous playback on up to four devices, and full access to ESPN's catalog.
These new policies have sparked diverse reactions among Disney+ subscribers in Mexico, who will need to weigh the additional costs and limitations on account sharing.
