Norway Poised to Eliminate Gas and Diesel Cars, Leading Global Shift to Electric Vehicles

Norway is set to become the world's first country to effectively eliminate gasoline and diesel cars from its new car market.

Despite its vast oil and gas reserves, Norway has long been recognized as a global leader in sustainable transportation. Electric vehicle sales surged from less than 1% of total car sales in 2010 to 88.9% last year, with no signs of slowing down.

Data from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration indicates that over 96% of new cars sold in the first few weeks of this year were electric.

This achievement brings Norway closer to its goal of becoming fully electric, a target set by lawmakers in 2017. Christina, Secretary General of the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association (NEVA), expects the country to meet this target and is planning a celebration party with politicians and stakeholders.

She stated, 'We believe we will finish this year between 95% and 100%. Given the current global climate challenges, we need to celebrate our successes.'
