Peugeot is set to introduce a new mechanical system in Brazil, marking a shift towards more accessible electrification.
The company previously offered the 100% electric hatchback 208 and currently has the SUV E-2008 as its sole electric option.
Peugeot's new mild hybrid system, shared with Fiat, replaces the starter motor and alternator with an electric motor, enhancing fuel efficiency by approximately 15% without driving the wheels.
Fiat's strategy involves replacing 1.0 turbo engine models with hybrids, and Peugeot is expected to follow suit. Hybrid models typically cost about R$ 2,000 more.
In Europe, the 208 and 2008 feature a more advanced 48V mild hybrid system, which may soon be available in Brazil through Jeep and Fiat Toro.
Additionally, Peugeot offers plug-in hybrid versions of the 3008 and 5008 in Europe, providing an electric range of up to 87 km. However, the importation of these models to Brazil remains uncertain due to tariffs.
