China Imposes Anti-Dumping Measures on EU Brandy Amid EV Trade Tensions

China has announced temporary anti-dumping measures on brandy imports from the European Union, escalating trade tensions linked to electric vehicle (EV) subsidies.

After initiating an investigation into EU brandy imports, Beijing found evidence of dumping but initially refrained from imposing tariffs. Starting Friday, importers will need to pay a guarantee to Chinese customs based on approved pricing and import taxes.

In 2022, China was the largest importer of brandy, primarily from France. Concurrently, the EU has approved tariffs up to 35.3% on Chinese EVs, citing unfair subsidies impacting European automakers. China denies these claims and is investigating EU subsidies on dairy and pork products.
