Mumbai Records Lowest November Temperature Since 2016

Mumbai experienced a notable drop in temperature on November 27, 2024, recording the lowest November temperature since 2016 at 16.8 degrees Celsius. This figure marks a decrease from the previous low of 16.3 degrees Celsius noted on November 11, 2016.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that temperatures may continue to decline between November 28 and 29. Following a year characterized by intense heat and heavy rainfall, residents have been anticipating cooler conditions, which have now finally settled in.

The Santacruz observatory reported a minimum temperature of 16.8 degrees Celsius, which is 3.8 degrees below the seasonal average. In contrast, the Colaba observatory recorded a higher minimum of 22.5 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees below normal.

On the same day, maximum temperatures reached 32.4 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 33.6 degrees Celsius at Santacruz, both figures falling short of normal levels by 1.2 degrees and 0.3 degrees, respectively.

Looking ahead, the maximum temperature is anticipated to be around 33 degrees Celsius on November 28, with a minimum of approximately 17 degrees Celsius.

Sushma Nair, a scientist at the IMD in Mumbai, noted, “The cold weather has started early this year due to northerly winds. A further drop in temperature is expected by November 28-29, after which a slight increase will occur, although the overall weather will remain cool.”

Historically, November 19, 1950, recorded the highest minimum temperature for the month at 13.3 degrees Celsius.
