Kashmir Valley Records Abnormal Cold Snap

On November 17, 2024, the Kashmir Valley experienced temperatures significantly below seasonal norms following recent light snowfall and rainfall. The meteorological department in Srinagar reported overnight snowfall in Gulmarg, coupled with rain in Kupwara, although conditions improved during the day.

The lowest recorded temperature was in Gulmarg, where the day temperature reached 3.5°C, compared to an average of 9.2°C. At night, temperatures dropped further to -1.8°C after receiving half an inch of snowfall.

Srinagar, the summer capital, reported a low of 14.7°C against a normal of 15.9°C. In Pahalgam, temperatures registered at 12.2°C during the day, with nighttime temperatures falling to -2°C. Kupwara recorded a maximum of 15.1°C, slightly below the normal of 16°C.

The meteorological office has forecast dry weather until the evening of November 23, with expectations of cloudy conditions and potential light rain and snowfall on November 24 across various regions in Kashmir and Jammu.

Authorities advised tourists and travelers to heed administrative and traffic advisories.
