Heavy Rainfall Hits BC Coast, Nov 6, 2024

Environment Canada has issued a warning for significant rainfall on British Columbia's north coast, forecasting totals between 110 and 130 millimeters in areas including Prince Rupert. Inland regions are expected to receive 70 to 110 millimeters before the precipitation subsides.

The rain is projected to decrease later on Wednesday in Stewart, while Terrace and Kitimat will experience continued rainfall overnight, easing by Thursday morning.

On the south coast, power has been restored to the majority of the 290,000 BC Hydro customers affected by strong winds earlier in the week. Approximately 3,500 customers remain without electricity, primarily in Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast, with restoration expected for most by Wednesday evening.

BC Hydro has deployed additional crews to assist with repair operations in Sechelt, West Vancouver, and surrounding islands, focusing on clearing debris and fixing damaged power infrastructure.
