Mercedes Colombo, the delegate for the Junta de Andalucía in Cádiz, outlined the project's goals, which include the removal of invasive plant species, reforestation efforts, and the enhancement of forest resilience against climate change. The initiative is set to benefit various municipalities along the Cádiz coastline such as Chipiona, Rota, and Tarifa, focusing on sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation.
Simultaneously, an exhibition titled 'Anfibios' opened in Viso del Marqués, highlighting the plight of amphibians in Castilla-La Mancha. This traveling exhibition aims to educate the public on the critical threats facing amphibian species, which are currently the most endangered vertebrates globally. The exhibition features stunning photography and informative panels, emphasizing the ecological importance of amphibians as bioindicators of habitat health.
Pedro Luis Hernández Sastre, a leading herpetologist, emphasized that 41% of amphibian species are at extreme risk of extinction due to habitat destruction, pollution, and invasive species.
